I've got to tell you something!

Waiting for breakfast...

O: "King! I've got to tell you something! Did you know in heaven there is ALL the videogames in the world? Even Super Mario Brothers!"

King has his jaw dropped in amazement.

O: "I want to go to heaven! I want to go to heaven!"

M: "Where did you hear that Odan?"

O: "From Kevin. The home teacher Kevin."

Kindergarten registration

I am so happy

While we are driving, Odan is looking out the window when he says,

O: "Mom, I am so happy to be here on earth."

Super powers like Matilda

King and Odan were angry with me after watching 'Matilda', it was bedtime and they wanted to play the Wii instead of go to bed.

M: If you could have that super power that Matilda had, what would you do?

K: " I would pick you up and throw you out the window!"

O: "I would make your hand slap yourself in the face!"

Write my own book

Odan was angry with me, so in an attempt to distract him from his anger -

M: "Odan, what was your favorite part of the movie we just watched?"

O: "Nothing! I want to write my own book! It's called, 'Piggy and Gerald Getting Ready to Look in the Mirror'!"

M: "Wow, I want to read that book."

O: "I have to think of it first!"

Is he hinting that Mo Willems' Piggy and Gerald are going to take a long hard look in the mirror? A self-reflecting tale?

Terrible Laugh

O: "Hey mom, you wanna see my terrible laugh? Wa-hahahahaha!"

(It was a really good spooky laugh)

I'm not Superman!

Whenever Odan wears his Superman shirt, and multiple times on our hike up to Delicate Arch last weekend....

Passing Stranger: "Hey! Superman!"

O: "I'm not Superman! I'm Odan and I'm just wearing a Superman shirt!"

Your Husband

Lately I have been voicing my opinion that I do not enjoy 'poop' jokes. In response one day out of the blue.....

O: "Hey mom, your husband likes 'poop' jokes and thinks they are funny."

Do you remember my name?

At a family get together recently, one of Odan's older cousins, Orlando asked him a question...

Or: "Hey Odan, do you know my name?"

O: "Um, no."

Or: "My name is Orlando."

(Odan scurries off and within the minute passes by again)

Or: "Odan, do you remember my name?"

O: "I know your whole body, but not your name! You come from Trisha's house!"

Everyone is special

The boys asked me what the most important part of the body was. I explained there are lots of important parts, and they work together. The heart, the brain, the blood, etc.

K: "Mom, we're special."

M: "Yes we are."

O: "Everyone is special. Even Spanish people are special."

What the? 

Odan has been a bit obsessed with learning Spanish, wanting to watch movies in Spanish, recognizing some people only speak Spanish, and I love how curious he is about it. Glad to know that even though there are language differences, he recognizes our bodies are the same, and we are all special!

Dog Days Are Over

Listening to some Florence & the Machine ("Dog Days Are Over")

O: "What happens when the days are over?"

M: "Then we go to sleep when the day is over."

O: "No, when ALL the days are over?"

M: "Um....the days aren't ever going to be over. We live forever."

King's Brain

O: "King's brain is controlling him! His brain is controlling him to be crazy!"

Bully kids

One night Odan began to tell me about a mean boy at the park who was calling him names and telling him mean things. He described the boy as the boy with 'IronMan' sunglasses. He said the boy said he could "kill him" among other mean things. So I explained,

M: "Odan, don't listen to people you don't know. They might be having a hard time. That boy doesn't know what he's talking about. He doesn't understand..."

O: "Is he Spanish?"

M: "What? No! Well, maybe, I don't know, I didn't see him."

I later realized the Spanish thing came from the 'not understanding' part of our conversation, haha!

What DeeAnn thinks

Upset his sister keeps saying what he doesn't want to hear...

O: "DeeAnn thinks 'no' is the Spanish for 'yes'!"

I love you so much

O: "Mom, I love you so much it makes me cry."

A couple of days later,

O: "Dad, I love you so much I cry."

I Call!

The boys playing in their room...

K: "I call this car!"

O: "Aw, I wanted it!"

K: "Too bad, I called it first."

O: "But I called it in my head!"

Road Trippin'

O: "Put it on repeat! 'Piano Man' is my favorite song."

I snapped this on our third round through the song. He is deep in thought listening intently to the words. Nothing gets past this boy.
