I'm Pooped

Reading a book there was a phrase where the character was 'pooped'. Odan asked what it meant (chuckling of course at the silliness of it) and I told him it was another way of saying you were really tired.

A few days later after going on a hike, we were in the car...

O: "I'm pooed."

M: "You what??"

O: "I'm pooed!" (I realize he means he's tired)

M: "You mean you're 'pooped'."

O: "Oh yeah, I'm pooped."

Daddy's Beard

Kendall was tickling and play-biting the kids. He got to Odan's neck and while laughing Odan says,

O: "Dad! Get your freaking beard off of me!"

I'm Naked!

Odan walks into the Chalet (where we were camping with family) for breakfast and announces,

O: "Hey! I'm naked!"

His Uncle Kirk informs him that he indeed is not naked, he has his Batman pajamas on.

O: "No, I just painted myself in Batman pajamas. It's just paint. I really am naked."

Shadow

From my nephew Adam....

Odan and I (Adam) were walking and talking about shadows. Out of nowhere,

O: "I can run with my shadow! I can skip with my shadow! I can march with my shadow!"

After this he walks into the shadow of a building and says in his disappointed voice,

O: "Oops, I killed my shadow."

Is this guy speaking Spanish?

In the car listening to "Hummingbird" by Alex Clare...

O: "Is this guy speaking Spanish?"

M: "Nope. He said, 'like a hummingbird in flight you are, hovering, hovering' --"

O: "Oh. Why is he just speaking crazy?"

Talking to Batman

There is a picture of Batman that hangs in our craft cupboard. The other day Odan asked me if he could look at the picture. I said yes. He opens the door, looks at the picture and says,

O: "Hi Batman."

Silence.

O: "Mom! I heard Batman say 'Hi' to me! King! Come say 'Hi' to Batman!"

King comes over and looks at the picture and reluctantly says hi.

O: "Did you hear it? He said 'Hi'!"

K: "I didn't hear anything."

O: "Well I heard it in my head!" (He says excitedly)

Scary Thoughts

King was having a hard time going to sleep, complaining of 'scary thoughts'. Both boys were asking me to come sing them songs, I told them to sing themselves songs in their heads, as I was busy. (We often have conversations across the hall when I am in my room and they are laying in bed trying to go to sleep) King said it wouldn't work, it was too hard, his mind wasn't letting him. So I suggested they both sing out loud. I hear Odan start, "I Am a Child of God".

Some whisperings and a few minutes pass. Then Odan excitedly...

O: "Mom guess what? King doesn't have bad thoughts anymore! It's the end of his thinking! Hooray!"

I was chuckling to myself at Odan's phrasing when he added,

O: "Guess what helped it? Not the singing, only prayer!"

Visiting Daddy

We had gone to visit daddy at work, and Kendall was saying goodbye to us in the car. He and I were having a private conversation...

Kendall: "I love looking at you." (to me)

M: "Aw!"

Odan from the back interrupts,

O: "Then you imagine something beautiful to her?"

Missionaries

Upon seeing some missionaries riding their bike down the street.

O: "Mom, will I have to ride a bike to my mission?"

M: "Not to your mission. Maybe while you are in your mission."

O: "Guess where I'm going to go? I'm going to go to the Spanish speaking world."

M: "Well there are lots of countries that speak Spanish - Spain, Mexico..."

O: "I'm going to go to Spain!"

Kendall was still naming other countries that speak Spanish and upon hearing about the country Costa Rica...

O: "Just kidding, I'm going to go to Costa Rica!"

Bibbity-Bobbity-Boo

I had asked Odan repeatedly to get his pajamas on and after about 20 minutes I entered the boys' room to see he still had not changed. I began chastising him...

M: "Odan! You still don't have your pajamas on?!?"

Waving a straw he was playing with in his hand and pointing it directly to me he says,

O: "Bibbity-Bobbity-Boo, make mommy disappear!!"

I changed my mind

O: "Actually I changed my mind of what I want to be when I grow up."

M: "What do you want to be?"

O: "A scientist." (said slowly while wiggling one hand of fingers in front of his face in true mad-scientist fashion)

Throwing Up

Last night at the dinner table I explained that when we don't eat enough green vegetables our immune systems are weakened and our chances of getting sick increase. Odan ate every bit of broccoli off of his plate.

Today he threw up. And then said,

O: "The vegetables didn't work mom."

My Own Super Hero

O: "Hey mom, when I grow up I want to be my own super-hero. Guess what my name is going to be?

M: "What?"

O: "Map-Man. He will have a map that is metal, but it looks frozen. And to fight, it turns into lava and cuts bad guys. With lava."

A Better State

O: "I want to go to a better state."

M: "What state is better than Utah?"

O: "California."

M: "Why is California a better state?"

O: "Because it has fun stuff in it, like lollipops."

Earthquakes

O: "Mom, are there earthquakes in real life?"

M: "Yes."

O: "Are you kidding me? Are you kidding?"

M: "No, I'm not kidding, there are earthquakes in real life."

O: "I'm scared of earthquakes."

I do my best to explain the tectonic plates that shift underneath the land and oceans.

O: "How do you know?"

M: "Because I learned it."

Several hours later....

O: "Mom? Are you kidding me? Are earthquakes real?"

M: "Yes Odan, they are real!"

Look at all those people coming!

On our hike up to Delicate Arch looking back down the mountain...

O: "Hey mom! Look at all those people coming! I want to meet and make friends with ALL of them!"
